Message First off, there IS such a thing as moving RADAR. The RADAR is calibrated to his speedometer and your speed (or the Honda's speed) is determined as a differential of the speeds.

Whether or not you fight it is up to you, BUT if I were you, I'd think up strategy carefully. Everything that you've said does not hold any water.

:the honda) to pass the slow moving pickup truck. I had
:just passed the pickup (at about 75-80 mph) when
:noticed a cop car lights on cutting across the medium.
Too late for you! By the time you noticed him, he'd already clocked you.

:was going. I told him that my cruse was set somewhere
:around 75 ( the speed limit being 70) and I didn't
You nailed yourself in the foot!

:think I was going much faster then that. He told me
:that he clocked the honda going 89 and then asked my
:speed again. I told him the same. He then went back
:to his car and wrote me a ticket for 89 mph the same
:as the honda. On the ticket the officer said he got
He could easily defeat you on this one in court. All he has to say is, he clocked the Honda at 89MPH, and YOU WERE FOLLOWING THE HONDA AT THE SAME SPEED. Judge will believe him, not you.

:my speed from his front radar in moving mode. I don't
:see how this is possible. The officer started out on
:the other side of the highway traveling in the
:opposite direction. In which case the honda would have
Doesn't matter. He clocked the Honda with you on its tail. Moving RADAR works great (see my first comment above).

:my car, I no I had slowed to at least 70 and then merged
:into the right lane to get out of his way.
By the time you saw him, he has had you clocked already. Never mind you seeing him. Cops have hawks's eyes.

:I do not
:believe the officer ever had the chance to properly
:clock my car and only assumed my speed from the honda
:who was going faster then me.
NEVER EVER EVER say that to a Judge! Officers are properly trained. Electronic devices like RADAR guns take less than a second to clock your speed. Most, if not all, officers can estimate your speed (without any devices) and be correct within 1%.

:I'm thinking about fighting this ticket. I would
:like to know if an officer can assume the speed or
:does he have to have a reading? And any other use full
I think you're WHACKed!!! You're just mad cause you let a Honda pass you, and BOTH of you received tickets. Let it cool down and just pay for it. Get a stinkin RADAR detector next time.
